Lucy Molnar Wing - Biography

The circumstances of my childhood fostered a vivid imagination.

I was born in Budapest, Hungary and immigrated to Canada with my parents and brother during the Hungarian Revolution. I grew up with the perspective of history, art, and human nature, through a viewfinder focused on concepts of credibility and perspective, gaged by technical qualities.

Having always kept a photographic record, it seemed natural to introduce photography to my art in order to expand the context.

Through photo based composite scenes using a combination of multi disciplines, I can create images that evoke a consciousness with the past. The work can now speak for me by capturing the essence of the moment, and the irony of the historical connotations as they impact on today's cultural perspective.

I am drawn to images depicting all aspects of behavior and patterns. My quest is for the pathos and the images are the vehicle which takes the viewer past scenes depicting lies but also beauty, irony but also clarity, truth but also ambiguity.

"I have made the complete return to nature, and nature is as we all know, primarily an intellectual idea. I am satisfied that painting also is, like nature, an intellectual idea, and that the laws of nature as presented to the mind through the eye - and the eye is the painter's first and last vehicle - are the means of transport to the real mode of thought: the only legitimate source of esthetic experience for the intelligent painter."         Marsden Hartley

Images are the first input from our environment that ordain how we size up the world. More than any of our senses, vision and what we see, effects how we feel and what we remember. What is left after time passes is the impression Sometimes we see the impression and it is a catalyst for enlightenment. Sometimes we see the reality, then we see the beauty, even in suffering. If the image mirrors something we see in ourselves then maybe it can be the precursor of change in us.

"Teach us to care and not to care

Teach us all to sit still

Even among the rocks."

                   T.S. Eliot
