The past as it pertains to the present is the recurring theme in my work.
I aim at the juxtaposition of strength and pathos. To bring this quest to tangibility I seek historical venues in contemporary settings. In searching for images with a common element of uniformity a behavioral pattern emerges.
"When I took photos, when I was in the darkroom, I deliberately dodged all the rules, I mixed the most insane products together, I used film way past it's due date, I committed heinous crimes against chemistry and photography, and you can't see any of it."
Man Ray
The separate arts of painting and photography are catalysts for the evolvement of my hybrid form of work. Rather than simply capturing the moment as objective documentation the work can now take on a procured context. There is wonder in effects created by the use of formating, compositing, and staging - all in the pursuit of expressionist freedom. Through traditional craftsmanship combined with modern technology these images become the theme.
